Southwestern has gone 8-2 against Austin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Rebels will venture away from home to take on the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Southwestern is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.
While Southwestern's win against Oldenburg Academy wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Rebels narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Twisters 11-10. The win continues a trend for the Rebels in their matchups with the Twisters: they've now won nine in a row.
Jenna Owens was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2025. Macey Morrison also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Southwestern kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 4-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Austin, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They blew past Eastern 8-1 on Thursday. Considering the Eagles have won four matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Chloe Anderson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Julia Harris, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Raelynn Montgomery was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Southwestern's record now sits at 4-10. As for Austin, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Southwestern has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Austin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Southwestern was able to grind out a solid win over Austin when the teams last played two weeks ago, winning 13-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rebels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
