The North Smithfield Northmen will challenge the Classical Purple at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. North Smithfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
North Smithfield lost 10-4 to West Warwick on Saturday. The Northmen haven't had much luck with the Wizards recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Logan Robertson was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for North Smithfield: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyler Albino, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Classical). They were the clear victors by an 18-6 margin over Paul Cuffee on Thursday. The Purple have beaten Paul Cuffee the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Paul Cuffee has come to flipping the script.
Allen Espinal was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Classical got a massive performance out of Josiah Niyahkoon, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave Niyahkoon a new career-high. Carlos Baez-Inoa was another key player, getting on base in both of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Classical pushed their record up to 3-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games. As for North Smithfield, they now have a losing record of 7-8.
Everything went North Smithfield's way against Classical in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as North Smithfield made off with a 10-0 victory. Will the Northmen repeat their success, or do the Purple have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
