The Hampshire Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Robert C. Byrd Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hampshire is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Hampshire took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Lewis County a 10-0 shutout. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Minutemen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The result came thanks to Brycin Cavey's shutout, as he gave up just three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Chris Wood was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Landon Whitacre, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.
Hampshire was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .458. They are a perfect 7-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Robert C. Byrd was not the first on the board , but they got there more often. They had just enough and edged out Hampshire 4-3.
Xavier Carvelli made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 6.1 innings pitched. Carvelli was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashton Shaffer, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Hampshire's victory bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Robert C. Byrd, their win bumped their record up to 21-9.
