The Moreno Valley Vikings will head out on the road to take on the Poly Bears at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many runs in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.
Moreno Valley's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Woodrow Wilson 2-0.
A. Vasquez looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Moreno Valley saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was D. Alvarez, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Poly hadn't done well against Arlington recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Bears came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lions, sneaking past 1-0. Winning may never get old, but the Bears sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Poly also got a great performance from Danny Bedford as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Bedford has been consistent: he hasn't given up a single earned run any time he's pitched this season.
Moreno Valley's record now sits at 9-4. As for Poly, their record is now 7-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Moreno Valley has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Poly struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Moreno Valley couldn't quite finish off Poly in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 5-3. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
