The top two baseball showcases of the summer take place this weekend with the Under Armour All-America Game set for Saturday and the Aflac All-American Game scheduled for Sunday.
Aflac All-American Game
The Aflac game features an East vs. West battle to be played at PETCO Park in San Diego. Bill Hutton of Archbishop Mitty coaches the West team that features an impressive group of pitchers, including Dylan Bundy of Owasso, Archie Bradley of Broken Arrow, Ricky Jacquez of Franklin and Henry Owens of Edison.
Bundy is a two-time Gatorade state player of the year in Oklahoma and Bradley is one of the state’s top two-sport athletes as a quarterback and pitcher at Broken Arrow. Jacquez and Owens, meanwhile, both pitched for Team USA 18U this summer with Owens also participating at the Area Code Games last week.
The West also has Blake Swihart of Cleveland at catcher. Swihart was the leading hitter for Team USA 18U at the Junior World Championships and also had a strong outing for the Cincinnati Reds team at the Area Code Games. He’s joined at catcher by Austin Hedges of JSerra and Daniel Mengden of Westside, both of whom also spent time at the Area Code Games.
Other Area Code Game participants playing for the West include Dylan Davis of Redmond, Matthew Dean of The Colony, Shawon Dunston Jr., of Valley Christian, Robert Stephenson of Alhambra, Billy Flamion of Central Catholic, Phillip Evans of La Costa Canyon, Travis Harrison of Tustin and Christian Lopes of Edison. Lopes also played on Team USA 18U.
Larry Knight of Sumrall, which finished ranked No. 1 in the nation for the second year in a row by MaxPreps, leads the East team. He’ll have a trio of Team USA players leading the way, including Dillon Maples of Pinecrest, Philip Pfeifer of Farragut and Francisco Lindor of Montverde Academy.
Maples and Pfeifer head a strong pitching staff, that includes West Boca Raton’s Michael Kelly, Alonso’s Jose Fernandez, Menchville’s Deshorn Lake and Science Hill’s Daniel Norris.

Under Armour All-America Game
A pair of Team USA players head the American team in the Under Armour All-America Game. Nicky Delmonico of Farragut was a regular starter for Team USA as a DH and an infielder while John Hochstatter of San Ramon Valley saw time as a relief pitcher. Both will play for the American team, along with noteworthy teammates Dante Bichette, Jr., of Orangewood Christian, the son of former MLB all-star Dante Bichette, and Addison Russell of Pace, the lone junior on the American roster.
The National team has three players from outside of the country, including Ronald Guzman and Ronniel Demorizi of Dominican Republic and Skylar Janisse of Ontario.
The National team also has two players from Team USA in outfielder Bubba Starling of Gardner and pitcher Lance McCullers of Jesuit. McCullers is also the only junior on the National roster.
Area Code Game standouts for the Nationals include Jacob Anderson of Chino, Aaron Brown of Chatsworth, Chris McFarland of Lufkin, Nick Burdi of Downers Grove South, Spencer Linney of Head Royce and Jerrick Suiter of Valparaiso.
