Tyler Fernandez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ontario Christian got a big performance out of Logan Escoto, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one double and one RBI. That's the most hits Escoto has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Dean Cruz, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Ontario Christian hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Rancho Cucamonga came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 5-2. While the Cougars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Mason Sanchez tossed a big game, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.
On the hitting side, Brock Foulds was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Rowan Suchanek, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3.
Rancho Cucamonga's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Ontario Christian, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-8.
Ontario Christian might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Rancho Cucamonga when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Ontario Christian avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
