The Vasquez Mustangs will head out on the road to take on the Quartz Hill Royals at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
Vasquez is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Friday, they were much more limited against Castaic on Monday. They fell 5-2 to the Coyotes.
Mason Beard was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Quartz Hill). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Eastside a 25-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.
Parker White made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Kayden Smoot was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adyan Bischop, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Quartz Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 24 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 12 consecutive contests.
Quartz Hill pushed their record up to 16-7 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Vasquez, they now have a losing record of 8-9-1.
Vasquez might still be hurting after the 23-0 loss they got from Quartz Hill in their previous matchup back in March of 2017. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
