The Esparto Spartans suffered their biggest defeat since December 11, 2023 on Friday. They were outmatched by Golden Sierra on the road and fell 57-16. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Esparto in their matchups with Golden Sierra: they've now lost five in a row.
Golden Sierra's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gracey Nordby led the charge by almost dropping a triple-double on 18 points, 11 rebounds, and nine steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nordby has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Zofia Bradford, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and nine steals.
Esparto bumped their record down to 1-12 with that defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 16.0 points per game. As for Golden Sierra, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-9.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Esparto will take on Highlands at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Golden Sierra, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rio Vista at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rio Vista is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.
