Baseball Recap: Hersey Comes Up Short

Hersey dropped down to 3-6 on Friday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Hoffman Estates Hawks by a score of 3-2. The Huskies were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Hersey got a good showing from Spiro Zarafonitis, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Zarafonitis has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hersey saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Drew Thomas, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Thomas has snagged this season.

As for Hoffman Estates, the win got them back to even at 6-6. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.

On Hoffman Estates' side, Joaquin Carrasquillo and Niko Belesiotis were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Carrasquillo pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Meanwhile, Belesiotis didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). At bat, Carrasquillo got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Belesiotis went 2-for-3 with one run.

Hersey and Hoffman Estates could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Huskies will face off against Lake Zurich at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (234 vs. 57). Meanwhile, Hoffman Estates (ranked 401st) will meet Rolling Meadows (ranked 175th) at 4:45 p.m. on Monday.
