The Jac-Cen-Del Eagles will face off against the Rising Sun Shiners at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Jac-Cen-Del's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Rising Sun's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Jac-Cen-Del fell victim to Switzerland County and their airtight pitching crew on Monday. They fell just short of the Pacers by a score of 1-0. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Rising Sun sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over South Ripley on Monday. The Shiners haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Weston Cumberworth made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. He is becoming a predictor of Rising Sun's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 5-2 (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Cumberworth was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Rising Sun let Cooper Merica and Clinton Crandall run wild. Merica went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Crandall went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Crandall has posted since back in April.
Jac-Cen-Del's defeat dropped their record down to 12-8. As for Rising Sun, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Jac-Cen-Del has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rising Sun struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Everything went Jac-Cen-Del's way against Rising Sun in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Jac-Cen-Del made off with an 11-1 victory. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Shiners have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
