The Santa Maria Saints are taking a road trip to face off against the Nipomo Titans at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Santa Maria is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Santa Maria took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Santa Ynez, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Santa Maria had just enough and edged out Santa Ynez 2-1 on Tuesday. The two-run effort marked the Saints' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Santa Maria saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jordan Medina, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nipomo). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Orcutt Academy a 16-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Titans not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 14, 2024.
Travis Barr was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in triples. Eli Silveira was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs.
Nipomo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orcutt Academy only posted an OBP of .360.
Nipomo's record is now 2-3. As for Santa Maria, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
Thursday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Santa Maria has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .493. However, it's not like Nipomo struggles in that department as they've averaged .442. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Santa Maria was able to grind out a solid win over Nipomo when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Maria since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
