The Miramonte Matadors entered their tilt with the College Park Falcons with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Miramonte narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past College Park 50-48. Given Miramonte's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while College Park is ranked 405th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Miramonte had a senior duo take command as Karena Eberts dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds and Marianna Lawrence scored 14 points along with two steals. Eberts has been hot recently, having posted nine or more rebounds the last 18 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Julia Quinn Ferguson, who scored five points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Despite the defeat, College Park had strong showings from Taylor Ochoa, who scored 22 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Nyela Pete, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and seven assists. That was a full 45.8% of College Park's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sabrina Strode was another key contributor, scoring six points along with seven rebounds.
Miramonte has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. As for College Park, their loss was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-13.
Miramonte will be playing in front of their home fans against Mt. Diablo at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. College Park does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
