The Durham Trojans waltzed into their game on Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They managed a 48-44 victory over Pierce. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Durham also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2023.
Payton Santos was her usual excellent self, scoring 30 points. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.
When it comes to explaining why Pierce lost, one person who can't be blamed is Magali Jauregui. Despite the final result, she scored 17 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Letzy Ambriz, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Durham is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. As for Pierce, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.
Durham will be playing in front of their home fans against Paradise at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pierce, they will head out on the road to challenge East Nicolaus at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully East Nicolaus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Wednesday.
