The Lincolnton Wolves put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Cherryville as Lincolnton made off with a 65-40 victory. Given Lincolnton's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Cherryville is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lincolnton was led to victory by Lj Smith and Landen Lyerly. Smith scored 16 points, while Lyerly dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Smith also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Cameron Smith was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Cherryville lost, one person who can't be blamed is Darrien Floyd. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Lincolnton pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.3 points per game. As for Cherryville, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincolnton will be home for the holidays to greet Bunker Hill at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Bunker Hill comes in still looking for their first win of the season. Cherryville will be home for the holidays to greet Piedmont Community Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Piedmont Community Charter focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven last Friday.
