The Herrin Tigers will head out to square off against the Mt. Vernon Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Thursday, Herrin needed a bit of extra time to put away Benton. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Rangers 9-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since April 7th.

Jaxon Hudson was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tanner Hall, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mt. Vernon). They never let Cahokia get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory on Tuesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.
Bronx Hefner made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBI.
In other batting news, Maxwell Nowak was excellent, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Ty Pierce was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .462. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
The victory snapped Herrin's losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 8-13 record. As for Mt. Vernon, their record is now 11-9.
Herrin might still be hurting after the 8-1 loss they got from Mt. Vernon when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
