Dilley is 1-6 against Hondo since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Dilley Wolves will face off against the Hondo Owls at 7:00 p.m. Dilley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Dilley is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since April 2, 2024 on Monday. They had just enough and edged out Freer 9-8.
Jonathan Eguia made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Eguia was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Isaiah Lambert was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits.
Meanwhile, Hondo sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 win over Poth on Monday.
Like Dilley, Hondo also got a great game from a two-way player: Derek Elizondo. On the mound, he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Those two hits allowed gave Elizondo a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. He has become a key player for Hondo: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three hits, but 2-4-1 otherwise.
Elizondo wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joby Pimentel, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one run. Another was Mason Barr, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2.
Hondo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Poth only posted a batting average of .136.
Dilley's record now sits at 8-3. As for Hondo, their record is now 7-4-1.
Friday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Dilley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .490. However, it's not like Hondo struggles in that department as they've averaged .460. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Dilley might still be hurting after the 12-1 loss they got from Hondo when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Dilley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
