If Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy beats Academy of Careers & Exploration with 22 runs on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy put the hurt on Lucerne Valley with a sharp 22-2 win last Friday. The victory was familiar territory for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy, who have now won five games in a row.

Andrew Honnold and Matthew Avila made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Honnold pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Avila struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). Honnold also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. At the plate, Honnold went 4-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Avila went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Those three RBI gave Avila a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ricky Gutierrez was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy is 4-2 when Gutierrez posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Gabriel Thornburgh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Academy of Careers & Exploration got the win against Silver Valley on Friday by a conclusive 13-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagle.
The win got Academy of Careers & Exploration back to even at 8-8. As for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy skirted past Academy of Careers & Exploration 3-2 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024.
