Chester had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 3-5 to make it six. They came up short against the Loyalton Grizzlies, falling 12-6. The Volcanoes were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Grizzlies apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.
Chester saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Patrick Gerbatz, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Caiden Clark was another, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
As for Loyalton, their record now sits at 3-6. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by six runs or more this season.
On Loyalton's side, Thor Corcoran and Ryland Martinetti made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Corcoran struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Martinetti struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. At the plate, Corcoran went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three doubles, while Martinetti went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Loyalton is 3-1 when Corcoran posts two or more runs, but 0-5 otherwise.
In other batting news, Mason Holland was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was James Erle, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Coming up, Chester will venture away from home to challenge Burney at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Volcanoes' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Raiders have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Loyalton, they will take on Quincy at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Grizzlies surely won't give up without a fight.
