Etna had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. Everything went their way against the Mt. Shasta Bears on Saturday as they made off with an 11-3 victory. Considering the Lions have won 14 matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Clayton Harris and Emmett Stacher were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Harris tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Stacher struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. At the plate, Harris went a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs, while Stacher got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs Stacher has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emmitt Griggs, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Noah Hubbard, who went 1-for-4 with two runs.
Etna was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .368 or higher in four consecutive contests.
Etna is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Mt. Shasta, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 15-12.
As of now, neither Etna nor the Bears have any future games scheduled.
