The Lowell Red Devils will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the La Porte Slicers at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lowell has struggled recently with four losses in a row, while La Porte will arrive with three straight wins.
Last Friday, Lowell came up short against Hobart and fell 43-35. Lowell has not had much luck with Hobart recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jacob Viehman, who scored ten points. He set a new season high mark in blocks with two. Braydon Cox was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Meanwhile, even though Elkhart scored an imposing 60 points on Thursday, La Porte still came out on top. La Porte skirted past Elkhart 63-60. Given La Porte's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 104th, while Elkhart is ranked 377th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lowell bumped their record down to 1-5 with that loss, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for La Porte, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Lowell took a serious blow against La Porte when the teams last played back in January, falling 66-36. Can Lowell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
