The Truckee Wolverines suffered their closest defeat yet this season on Monday. They fell just short of Virginia City by a score of 33-30. Truckee was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Virginia City apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
Despite the loss, Truckee saw an underclassman step up: Sophia Killian scored eight points.
Virginia City can attribute much of their success to Matley Kelley, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kelley hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games.
Truckee has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Virginia City, their win bumped their record up to 4-17.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Truckee will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against South Tahoe at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th. Hopefully South Tahoe focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Saturday. As for Virginia City, they will head out on the road to take on Pyramid Lake at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Pyramid Lake has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 344 points over their last five contests.
