Senior wide receiver and defensive back
Kyler Ronquillo capped a spectacular high school football career Saturday in the Washington Class 3A state championship game with what may be the heads-up play of the season, helping
Yelm win its first ever title.
Down 13-12 to perennial power
Eastside Catholic (Sammamish) with less than a minute to go, Yelm quarterback
Damian Aalona threw an interception that appeared to end championship hopes for the Tornados. But Ronquillo stayed with the play, ripping the ball away from
Tyson Weaver and racing 25 yards to the end zone.

Ronquillo's incredible effort preserved an unbeaten season for Yelm (14-0) and brought home a historic first state title for the program, which happens to be coached by Jason Ronquillo – Kyler's father.
The 5-foot-9, 175-pound playmaker had over 1,000 all-purpose yards this season and will play for Portland State next season.
