Valparaiso is 9-1 against Merrillville since September of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Vikings will challenge the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
On Thursday, Valparaiso came up short against Chesterton and fell 2-0. The Vikings have struggled against the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
While Valparaiso was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-20.

Despite the loss, Valparaiso had strong showings from Lily Simpson, who had 16 digs and three assists, and Sophia Carlson, who had five digs and one assist. Simpson is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last five games she's played.
Meanwhile, Merrillville also suffered a loss in their last game, falling to Whiting by a score of 3-1.
While Merrillville ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 17 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-23.
Merrillville's defeat dropped their record down to 8-16. As for Valparaiso, their loss dropped their record down to 15-12.
Valparaiso took their win against Merrillville when the teams last played on September 4th by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
