Mission Hills has gone 8-1-1 against Sage Creek recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Grizzlies will look to defend their home field against the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Mission Hills 3.9, Sage Creek 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Saturday, Mission Hills didn't have quite enough to beat Mt. Carmel and fell 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Grizzlies have suffered against the Sundevils since April 9, 2015.
Mission Hills got a good showing from Nate Sheriff, who struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and only one walk). Sheriff has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Mission Hills saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brock Young, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sage Creek, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Del Norte 10-9 on Saturday.
Sage Creek let Elijah Stephens and Sean Saiki run wild. Stephens fired off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-4, while Saiki got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI Stephens has posted since back in March. Max Biehl was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Sage Creek lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Sage Creek's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for Mission Hills, they now have a losing record of 8-9.
Mission Hills came out on top in a nail-biter against Sage Creek when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-5. Will the Grizzlies repeat their success, or do the Bobcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
