Basketball Recap: Sacred Heart of Jesus Takes a Loss

After flying high against St. Bernard last Thursday, Sacred Heart of Jesus came back down to earth. The Sacred Heart of Jesus Comets lost 58-35 to the La Serna Lancers on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1049th, while the Lancers are ranked 270th).

When it comes to explaining why Sacred Heart of Jesus lost, don't look at Michelle Canete. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Canete is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Genevee Hernandez was another key player, putting up six points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Sacred Heart of Jesus has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. As for La Serna, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season.

Sacred Heart of Jesus has already played their next game, a 53-15 win against Pomona Catholic on the 18th. As for La Serna, they will be playing at home against Santa Fe at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Santa Fe will roll in looking for their seventh straight victory, something La Serna surely won't give up without a fight.
