Willowbrook and Downers Grove North are an even 3-3 against one another since May of 2016, but likely not for long. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Trojans at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Downers Grove North will be up against a hot Willowbrook team: the squad just extended their winning streak to 21. Everything went the Warriors' way against Proviso East on Friday as they made off with a 19-1 win. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
David Jacob Sullivan looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Jory Crocker was a standout: he fired off two home runs, four runs, and five RBI while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alek Ramey, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3.
Willowbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .656. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Downers Grove North made easy work of Glenbard West on Thursday and carried off a 12-3 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the Hilltoppers: they've now won three in a row.
A.J Myers looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rhys Dominow, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Jack Romsey was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Willowbrook's victory bumped their record up to 22-4. As for Downers Grove North, their win bumped their record up to 18-9.
Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Willowbrook hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Downers Grove North struggles in that department as they've averaged .351. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Willowbrook skirted past Downers Grove North 4-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Trojans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
