Baseball Recap: Torrance's Victory on Friday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Torrance had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the West Warriors, sneaking past 5-3. For the Tartars, this counts as revenge for the 5-2 win the Warriors walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Sam Cruz tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Trevor Fortuna was excellent, going 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season. Hector Chavez was another key player, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases.

Torrance's record now sits at 6-2. As for West, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

Torrance will head out on the road to take on Lakewood at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Torrance 3.5, Lakewood 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for West, they will host Palos Verdes at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
