After flying high against the Modesto Panthers last Thursday, the Enochs Eagles came back down to earth. Enochs took a 60-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Gregori on Tuesday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Enochs in their matchups with Gregori: they've now lost nine in a row.
When it comes to explaining why Enochs lost, one person who can't be blamed is Natalie Quinones. Despite the final result, she scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gurleen Gill, who scored six points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.
Even though they lost, Enochs were working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Gregori was led to victory by Veronica Whitten and Alanah Lopez. Whitten dropped a double-double on 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Lopez scored 23 points along with three steals. Whitten is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. Lilly Staggs was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with five steals.
Enochs' loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 5-12. As for Gregori, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 12-8.
Enochs will be playing at home against Pitman at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Pitman focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday. As for Gregori, they will head out on the road to face off against Modesto at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Modesto is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
