Baseball Recap: Central Extends Winning Streak to Four

Central had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt St. Raphael Academy on Wednesday. The Knights blew past the Saints 13-6. While the Knights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-16), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

AJ Vega and Jonas Diaz made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Vega tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Diaz pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. At the plate, Vega scored three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Diaz went 2-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maikel Soriano, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-4. Soriano is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Mark De La Cruz, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory keeps Central at an undefeated 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.8 runs this season. As for St. Raphael Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-2.
