Cedaredge had won ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they bumped up to 5-0 to make it 11. Everything went their way against the Basalt Longhorns as they made off with an 18-8 win. Considering the Bruins have won four contests by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Tia Homedew was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Homedew was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Cedaredge let Kiera Stroh and Mia Gallegos run wild. Stroh got on base in all five of her plate appearances with five runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI, while Gallegos went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloee Hebert, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Cedaredge kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits every time they've taken the field this season.
As for Basalt, they are on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5. On the bright side, the eight- run effort marked their highest-scoring match to date.
On Basalt's side, Elsie Mile made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Sydney Ostberg was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs and one stolen base.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cedaredge will take on Durango at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Demons have averaged an impressive 8.8 runs per game this season. As for Basalt, they will face off against Platte Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
