The La Vernia Bears were the 35-14 winner over the Calhoun Sandcrabs when they played last October, but their luck changed this time aroud. La Vernia fell just short of Calhoun by a score of 21-14. That means La Vernia has now suffered back-to-back defeats.
Although La Vernia took the loss, they still got scores from Isaiah Cisneros and Keegan Hajek.
Calhoun's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Darrik Salinas led the charge by rushing for 133 yards while picking up 8.3 yards per carry.
La Vernia's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last year) and brought them to 4-2. Calhoun's record is now 3-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Vernia will face off against Floresville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Calhoun will head out on the road to face off against Pleasanton at that same time.
