The Apalachee Wildcats will take on the Hebron Christian Lions at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Apalachee has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Thursday just wasn't the day for Apalachee's offense. They came up short against Loganville on Thursday, falling 18-0. The Wildcats have struggled against the Red Devils recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Apalachee saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Rudell, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Hebron Christian faced off against Westminster on Monday. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted since September 13th.
Kate Kennedy tossed a big game, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauren Kyranakis, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two doubles and one run. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Juls Huber, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Hebron Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-2 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for Apalachee, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Apalachee hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Hebron Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .394. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
