Knightstown won against Union County last Friday with 59 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Panthers simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Union City Indians 59-12. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Indians: they've now won three in a row.
Knightstown's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Bryor Carmichael, who threw for 244 yards and four TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes. What's more, Carmichael racked up 153.3 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Knightstown's leading receiver Brody Willard was Carmichael's top target yet again, picking up 148 receiving yards and three scores.
Knightstown didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Union City to a completion percentage of just 22.2%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from six players: Ryan Murnan, Bryce Marrow, Andrew Buchanan, Alex Muir, Dylan Bonewits, and Brantt Ellis, who each logged one passes deflected. Knightstown hasn't an opponent to post a completion percentage of 0.44 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Knightstown, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Aaron Mefford, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from him.
When it comes to explaining why Union City lost, don't look at D'Shaun Ware. Despite the final result, he rushed for 77 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 67 receiving yards and one TD.
Knightstown's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Union City, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.
Knightstown wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 58-20 loss against Eastern Hancock on the 19th. As for Union City, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 62-0 defeat against Northeastern on the 19th.
