The Coyotes, who had not allowed a hit since the fifth inning of a game against Northgate (Walnut Creek) on March 24, strung together six straight no-hitters heading into Friday's matchup with St. Vincent de Paul (Petaluma). The streak is thought to be the longest streak in state history, although no such category exists in the Cal-Hi Sports Record Book.
Sonoma Academy's effort to get a seventh no-hitter appeared to end in the first inning against the Mustangs when
Liam Galten hit a triple with one out. According to a report in USA Today, St. Vincent de Paul went on to build a 9-1 lead and an apparent victory over Sonoma Academy.
See a professional photo gallery from the gameThat's when things got interesting. Sonoma Academy rallied to tie the game at 12 when darkness halted the contest. Although efforts were made to get the lights to the field turned on, the umpires called the game, thus suspending the result.
Since the game is not official, it's possible that Sonoma Academy could play another opponent prior to the resumption of the game against St. Vincent de Paul. If that happens, the no-hit streak would technically still be intact.
Sonoma Academy takes on Technology (Rohnert Park) on Tuesday. The Coyotes began their no-hit streak against Technology on April 7.
