The Classical Saints put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They snuck past Cunningham with a 69-64 win. Classical's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Classical had a senior duo take command as Charlie Graham went 7 for 12 from beyond the arc en route to 27 points and 4 assists and Daniel Young dropped a double-double on 19 points and 19 rebounds. Young also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Tait Sinclair, who scored 14 points.
Cunningham lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Luke Albers, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. Albers scored a full 34.4% of Cunningham's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Luke McGuire was another key contributor, scoring 19 points along with three steals.
Classical pushed their record up to 6-0 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 32.15 points. As for Cunningham, their loss dropped their record down to 5-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Classical will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Flinthills at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024. Cunningham will be home for the holidays to greet Macksville at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Macksville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings (they are ranked 132nd, while Cunningham is ranked 32nd).
