Washington has gone a perfect 10-0 against Balboa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Eagles will challenge the Buccaneers at 3:30 p.m. Washington is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
Washington's tournament run continued when they took on Palo Verde Valley on Thursday. The Eagles fell just short of the Yellow Jackets by a score of 5-4.
Kiefer Hollands was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. Those doubles marked the first that he has hit this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Balboa). Everything went their way against Mission last Thursday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Buccaneers.
Nick Gwinn made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Gwinn was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Trent Wiley and Richard Rodas did most of the damage at the plate: Wiley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Rodas went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Rodas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of William Crowell, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Balboa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Washington's defeat dropped their record down to 5-10. As for Balboa, the win was their first at home, bumping their record up to 2-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Washington has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Balboa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Washington got the 'W' when the teams last played back in March of 2025 against Balboa by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
