Basketball Recap: Amherst Skates Past South Loup with Ease

Amherst not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since December 7, 2024 (when they won 57-15). They really took it to South Loup for the full four quarters, racking up a 56-16 win. With the Broncos ahead 31-8 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Amherst was led to victory by Addy Simmons and Libby Mitchell. Simmons dropped a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Mitchell posted 14 points and six steals. The dominant performance also gave Simmons a new career-high in steals (eight). Another player making a difference was Kylinn Daugherty, who earned 12 points.

Amherst smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Loup only pulled down four offensive rebounds.

Despite the loss, South Loup had strong showings from Emma Stallbaumer, who put up eight points and five boards, and Gracie Brennan, who scored no points.

Amherst pushed their record up to 2-0 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for South Loup, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Amherst will take on Broken Bow at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Loup, they will venture away from home to square off against Cambridge on Friday.
