Castilleja is on a four-game streak of home losses, the Panthers a ten-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Castilleja Gators will take on the Eastside College Prep Panthers at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, things could have been worse for Castilleja, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 49-33 loss to the Eagles. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Castilleja in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now lost six in a row.
Despite the defeat, Castilleja got a solid performance out of Antonia Vlahos, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 57.6% of Castilleja's points, marking the 16th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Landry Agnich was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with eight rebounds.
Meanwhile, Eastside College Prep took a serious blow against the Knights on Thursday, falling 52-19. While losing is never fun, Eastside College Prep can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 938th, while the Knights are ranked 414th).
Castilleja's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Eastside College Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-10 record this season.
Castilleja strolled past the Panthers in their previous matchup back in January by a score of 47-28. Does Castilleja have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Panthers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
