Souhegan is 2-8 against Milford since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Sabers will host the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Souhegan is headed into Friday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their sixth straight game dating back to last season on Monday. They lost 22-10 to Kingswood. While the Sabers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Knights 6-0 in the first period.
Isabelle Brandt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That double marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Violet Quesnel, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Milford). They were the clear victors by a 25-3 margin over Manchester West on Wednesday. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Blue Knights recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Livi Mazzeo made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Mazzeo was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.2 runs per game.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Arabelle Danforth, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five runs, and three RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 2.4 runs per game. Sophie Decoteau was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Milford always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Souhegan's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Milford, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Souhegan hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Milford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Souhegan came out on top in a nail-biter against Milford in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 12-11. Do the Sabers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
