Baseball Game Preview: Hiram Hornets vs. Dalton Catamounts

Hiram hasn't had much luck against Dalton recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Hiram Hornets are taking a road trip to face off against the Dalton Catamounts at 5:55 p.m. Hiram is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

Last Friday, Hiram came up short against Southeast Whitfield County and fell 9-5.

Josh Tuggle put in work while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time he hasn't allowed a single hit since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Hiram got a big performance out of James Strickland, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one double. Those four RBI gave Strickland a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Ramirez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Dalton hadn't done well against Cass recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Dalton had just enough and edged out Cass 2-1. While the Catamounts didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-20), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hiram's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Dalton, their victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-3.

Hiram might still be hurting after the 15-0 loss they got from Dalton when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Can Hiram avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
