After a string of three wins, the AZ Compass Prep National Dragons's good fortune finally ran out on Sunday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 47-46 to La Lumiere. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as AZ Compass Prep National came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked third in Arizona, while La Lumiere is ranked 75th in Indiana).
Several Dragons players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jeremiah Fears, who scored 16 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Sammie Yeanay, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds.
AZ Compass Prep National's defeat dropped their record down to 11-5. As for La Lumiere, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4.
AZ Compass Prep National won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Long Island Lutheran at 3:00 p.m. on January 15th. One thing working in Long Island Lutheran's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for La Lumiere, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wilson Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Wilson Academy is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
