Lincoln Park had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-2 to make it eight. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Amundsen Vikings. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Lions of the 4-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2025.
Lincoln Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Luciano, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one double. Another was Matthew Merovitz, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Amundsen, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Nine seems to be a good number for them as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
On Amundsen's side, Shea O'Conor made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. O'Conor was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other pitching news, Amundsen got a great performance from Alex Barsky as he struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those eight strikeouts gave Barsky a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Noah Gaietto and Antonio Yanez did most of the damage at the plate: Gaietto went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Yanez went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Yanez has posted since back in May of 2025. Grayson Infelise was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Lincoln Park will head out to take on Evanston at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Amundsen, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Evergreen Park at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
