Thomas Jefferson extended their losing streak to 11 on Tuesday, dropping them down to 0-11. They came up short against the George Washington Patriots, falling 22-9. On the bright side, the nine- run effort marked the Spartans' highest-scoring match to date.
Ariana Winn made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 5-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Stella O'Malley, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
As for George Washington, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-9. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win they have posted against Thomas Jefferson since August 19, 2020.
On George Washington's side, Amelia Nelson and Sofie Schultz made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Nelson tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. Meanwhile, Schultz tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. At the plate, Nelson went 3-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Schultz got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs Schultz has posted over her last seven contests.
In other batting news, Muggy Duffy was incredible, going 4-for-6 with four runs, two triples, and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last seven games. Leilani Martin was another key player, going 2-for-6 with five RBI, two runs, and one double.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thomas Jefferson will head out to face off against Denver East at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Angels have averaged an impressive 8.2 runs per game this season. As for George Washington, they will square off against Rangeview at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.57 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of.
