It was a good run, but the Monte Vista Mustangs unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 75-54 walloping at the hands of California. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Monte Vista has suffered against California since February 11, 2020.
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Rachel Brans, who scored 13 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Brans has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Rudd, who scored 18 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
California's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Lim, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Lim has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lauren Yee, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Monte Vista's defeat dropped their record down to 11-8. As for California, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monte Vista will take on Foothill at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Foothill has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 280 points over their last four matches. As for California, they will be playing at home against Granada at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Granada will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 655th, while California is ranked 54th).
