The Aquinas Falcons waltzed into their match on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Corona 69-50. Given Aquinas' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 150th, while Corona is ranked 310th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Aquinas' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Breanna Bates led the charge by scoring 26 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeleine De Kodia, who scored 13 points along with seven steals and five assists.
Aquinas is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season. As for Corona, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-8.
Aquinas will take on Pacifica Christian/Orange County at 10:30 a.m. on Monday. Hopefully Pacifica Christian/Orange County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 last Tuesday. As for Corona, they will be playing at home against King at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
