Syracuse had lost six straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped down to 1-5 to make it seven. They lost 10-3 to the Plattsmouth Blue Devils. If the Rockets were looking for revenge after losing 13-1 to the Blue Devils when the teams met back in September of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Teagan Starzec was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Mayson Sprague also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
As for Plattsmouth, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games.
On Plattsmouth's side, Justine Villamonte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Villamonte has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in September of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ruby Campin, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Mink, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Syracuse will venture away from home to square off against Nebraska City at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pioneers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Plattsmouth, they are taking a road trip to take on Auburn at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
