Baseball Recap: Everett Alvarez Wins Going Away Against Watsonville

Everett Alvarez's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They blew past the Watsonville Wildcatz 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Eagles, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Ivan Chavez made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Chavez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Everett Alvarez's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Roman Garcia was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Oscar Valdez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Everett Alvarez has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.6 runs over those games. As for Watsonville, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Everett Alvarez didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-1 win against King City on the 21st. As for Watsonville, they have also already played their next game, a 10-0 victory against Gonzales on the 25th.
