Basketball Recap: Mallorie Kellum's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Holtville over Southwest SD

Holtville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 33-22 to the Southwest SD Raiders. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Raiders apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2014.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mallorie Kellum, who posted seven points and eight boards. Kellum is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Melany Estrada, who put up six points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks.

Southwest SD was led to victory by Jazlyn Martinez and Ziara Rosa. Martinez had 13 points, while Rosa posted eight points.

Holtville's loss dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Southwest SD, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.

Holtville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 39-23 defeat against Chula Vista on the 23rd. As for Southwest SD, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 45-15 win against Monte Vista on the 23rd.
