Grimsley had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They slipped by the West Charlotte Lions 28-27. Winning may never get old, but the Whirlies sure are getting used to it with their 17th in a row dating back to last season.
Faizon Brandon looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 62 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 155 yards and one touchdown while completing 73.3% of his passes. Micah Williams was in the mix too, providing Grimsley with two scores.
When it comes to explaining why West Charlotte lost, don't look at Jamouri Nichols. Despite the final result, he rushed for 51 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 174 yards and one TD while completing 81% of his passes. West Charlotte's leading receiver Donte Nicholson was Nichols' top target yet again, picking up 88 receiving yards and one score.
