The Camarillo Scorpions waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with six straight wins but they left with seven. They took down Victory Christian Academy 66-47.
Camarillo's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daniela Rocha Betancourt led the charge by scoring 28 points along with five rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rocha Betancourt has scored all season. Emerson Martin was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with nine rebounds.
Despite the loss, Victory Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: Kami Demara scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Sophia Abella, who scored nine points along with six assists.
Camarillo pushed their record up to 15-5 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.7 points per game. As for Victory Christian Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 10-5.
Camarillo and Monte Vista will face off at 1:00 p.m. on January 15th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Monte Vista will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 736th, while Camarillo is ranked 156th). As for Victory Christian Academy, Victory Christian Academy and Montgomery will face off at 6:30 p.m. on January 17th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Montgomery is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.6 points per game.
